Wait List -Please Read

Unfortunate, we will not running a wait list. Managing a wait list is very time consuming and distracts the race team from race preparing tasks, especially in the 2-3 weeks leading up to the race.

However, we recognise that not all the entrants will run the race on 10 September because of injury or a change in circumstances. As race organisers we want to see as a many people take part and enjoy the race as possible.

To try any resolve this issue we have asked that runners that now do not wish to take part let other know via the event Facebook page (link below). Likewise, runner that want a place to do the same. Runners can then liaise and transfer the places via the race try system.

Course

The course is nearly all tarmac promenade, pavement or road but between the Ferry and the Martello Tower there is a stretch of sometimes heavy shingle and so because of this we are sorry to say it is not suitable for wheelchair competitors.

The course will have two water stations and also water at the finish.

Ipswich Half Marathon – Great East Run @ Portman Road Stadium
Sep 24 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm

2017 will see the inaugural staging of the Great East Run in Ipswich. Together with our partners Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Jaffa Running Club we’ll be bringing the UK wide Great Run series to East Anglia on Sunday 24th September.

This event follows a fast flat course, great for new runners and those looking for a half marathon PB.

Starting and finishing close to Ipswich Town’s Portman Road stadium, runners pass the prestigious Willis building designed by Lord Foster before heading down to Ipswich’s vibrant waterfront.

The route then passes Felaw Maltings on the way out and back along Wherstead Road, where particpants will see Fox’s Marina, Suffolk Food Hall and go twice under the iconic Orwell Bridge into Freston.

On returning to the town centre, runners will pass over the Wet Dock lock gates and continue along the waterfront for a second time, before returning to the finish line located on Sir Alf Ramsey Way.

Please note – this course is provisional and subject to change
