Race update

We regret to announce that we will not be hosting the Richard Bennett Coastal 10, nor the Martlesham 10k/5k this year.

While England Athletics have not yet confirmed their position for races in September or October, we have taken this decision because we do not feel that we could host these races safely at this time.

There is not enough space on Felixstowe prom to adequately separate runners and the figure-of-8 layout of the course means that a staggered start would not be feasible.
The lapped nature of the Martlesham course would mean that we cannot ensure spacing between waves of runners and the narrow path towards the end of the lap would not facilitate any passing while maintaining the prescribed distancing.

We have looked into mitigation strategies and reducing numbers, but could not find any viable options.

We realise that this will be a disappointing, albeit unsurprising announcement for local runners. These races also usually raise thousands of pounds for charities, but we cannot risk the health of the participants, spectators, residents and visitors at this time.

We intend to bring these races back in 2021.

Thank you
