Iconic race returns to Martlesham

The much-loved Martlesham 10k race will return this year, thanks to work between the race’s partners to include the event in the 2019 race calendar.

The race, which sees hundreds of runners tackling 4 laps of Martlesham Heath green and the surrounding area, has raised thousands for local causes thanks to the efforts of the Martlesham Heath Householders Ltd (MHHL), Woodbridge Lions and in recent years, Felixstowe Road Runners.

Last year’s event was cancelled due to communication issues between organisers, but runners will be keenly welcomed back this year.

The race will take place on Sunday 6th October and will also feature a 5KM race and a Fun Run. Fifty race places will be made available for Martlesham residents as a gesture of thanks for the continued support of residents in the area.

Historically, the event has been the biggest fundraiser for the Woodbridge Lions, which has taken the funds used and redirected them to the local community, helping individuals, families and groups.

President of Woodbridge Lions, Roy Benton said “We are absolutely delighted that along with our partners, we can welcome this much-loved sporting event back to Martlesham this year.

“On behalf of the Lions I would like to thank the MHHL for supporting the coordination of the event and I’d like to apologise to them and to anyone else who was disappointed by the cancellation of the event last year. This was due to communications issues which we’re confident will not be a problem again.”

“Events such as these are so important for us in helping to support people and groups in our local community. The support from Felixstowe Road Runners, who coordinate the event for us, means that runners from all over the region and further afield join us for this family event.”
