FRR helps buy key lifesaving equipment for local football team

Felixstowe Road Runners (FRR) has helped a local football team to buy a defibrillator for their training ground.

The running club donated over £500 to Kirton Kestrels to help them buy the equipment which is permanently located at the team’s home ground.

Today, Saturday 4th March, members of the club’s committee, including current Chairman Mark Ford and previous Chairman, Richard Farnworth, joined the team in the official unveiling of the equipment.

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest. Should someone need to use this, they can call 999 and receive instructions on how to use the device which will help save a person’s life.  The cause is important to FRR after key club member and current club secretary Jonathan Jenkyn suffered a cardiac arrest in August 2015.

Members of Kirton Kestrels took part in the fun run at the FRR Kirton 5 race last June to raise money for the equipment.  FRR Chair at the time Richard Farnworth decided to refund their entry fee and donated an extra £500 on behalf of the club.

The club hopes that the equipment will give people the confidence to learn more about key life saving techniques should anyone in the area be in need.
