Road closures and parking on Sunday 8th September

Sunday 8th September will be a busy day in Felixstowe with our Coastal 10 race in the morning and the finale of the Tour of Britain in the afternoon. The Tour is expected to arrive in Felixstowe shortly after 3pm, but they have restrictions in place so they can build their finish area.

For more detailed information on the Tour of Britain arrangements, please check the East Suffolk Council website: https://www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/leisure/cycling/tour-of-britain-travel-information/

As you might expect, there will be some road closures and parking restrictions in place for these events. I hope to summarise these here…

Road closures

Maybush Lane (between Brook Lane and Foxgrove Lane), Golf Road and High Road East/Cliff Road (Golf Road to Western Avenue) will be closed from around 8:30 to 12:00, or as soon as possible once runners are passed – likely around 11:00.

The Tour of Britain will be employing rolling road closures from 15 minutes before to 10 minutes after the cyclists go through. Their route goes through Trimley, along Garrison Lane and Langer Road, then Beach Station Road to the sea front and finishing along the length of Sea Road to the leisure centre. None of these will affect our race.

Parking restrictions

The Tour of Britain necessitates some parking restrictions to ensure the cyclists can progress safely. The relevant restrictions for us are:

Sea Road and side roads off it, Undercliff Road West (leisure centre to Spa Pavillion) – no parking all day.

Garrison Lane, Langer Road – no on-road parking between 11:00 and 15:30

Car parks

We recommend car sharing or public transport where possible as parking is limited. The best car parks to use for our race are: Garrison Lane, Ranelagh Road, Crescent Road and Arwela Road. These are all council run car parks and will be operating as long stay for this Sunday. Please be considerate of residents when choosing where to park – especially given that some residents will be parking away from their homes due to the above restrictions.
